Paul Otellini: Bio
PAUL OTELLINI’S BIO
The value of hard work was ingrained in Paul S. Otellini when he was a boy growing up in San Francisco. One of his first jobs, in grammar school, was delivering newspapers in the city. In high school he worked at a men’s suit store, stocking shelves and selling clothes.
When the time came for the next big step after he finished high school, Otellini went against his father’s wish — which was for him to join the priesthood — and attended the University of San Francisco, where he discovered an interest in economics and finance. After college Otellini went straight to Silicon Valley.
Since joining Intel in 1974, Otellini has managed several businesses, including the company’s PC and server microprocessor division and the global sales and marketing organization.
In 2002, Otellini was elected to Intel’s board of directors and promoted to president and chief operating officer. He was named CEO in May 2005. Under Otellini’s guidance, Intel began its mission to make portable wireless computing available anytime, anywhere, and to make computers more afforable.
Otellini received a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of San Francisco in 1972, and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley in 1974. Otellini serves on the board of directors of Google Inc.
