Listening to Megan McArdle giggle derisively about the demise of the public option for health care reform, set my teeth on edge. Given that enough members of the House have pledged that they will not support a bill that does not have a strong public option, and that both Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have said that a public option will be in the final bill and that four of the five committees tasked with creating the bill have included the public option in their versions, is her comment based in bias or ignorance? She seemed to positively enjoy the fact that the public option is dead as a kick in the face to all those hopelessly naive progressives who support it, and that nothing would put a brake on the insurance companies. She sounded like a high schooler trying to impress someone with their superior inside knowledge. Actually it is Ms. McArdle who is the uninformed one here. Her level of analysis makes the most inane cable news talking head look positively brilliant. Surely public radio can do better.
