While brainstorming ideas for their weekly date nights, San Diego couple Jeff and Karina Besen came up with a concept for a business.
“We usually go to the movies, the beach, comedy, and we started running out of things to do,” said Karina. “Jeff was like, ‘Hey I wish that we could go to a wedding.’”
But the couple, who’ve been married for 19 years, didn’t know anyone planning to get married. “A few different dots connected, and I said, ‘Wait a minute, what if there’s a way you could just go to a [stranger’s] wedding, but you’re not actually crashing it?” Jeff said.

After researching the industry and hiring a developer, the Besens launched a website called “Not a Wedding Crasher” in which couples with unfilled seats at their weddings can connect with interested party guests willing to pay to attend. “We think about it more as a monetary contribution,” said Jeff.
Not a Wedding Crasher is still in its infancy, but the Besens said they’ve sold about a dozen seats so far and have 300 guests on the platform.
