Venezuela’s opposition party gains power

The opposition party is now the majority in Venezuela.

Venezuelans woke up this morning to a revolution of sorts — or perhaps better said, a counter-revolution. In elections on Sunday, the main opposition party won most of the seats in the National Assembly. Socialist President Nicolás Maduro — who was handpicked for the job by President Hugo Chavez before he died — has said he’s accepted it, but he’s not happy about it. The BBC’s Daniel Pardo is in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas.
