PODCAST: Something rotten in the jobs report

The U.S. economy added only 74,000 jobs in December, way below most economists' predictions. The unemployment rate dropped to 6.7 percent. Attention, Target shoppers: That data breach was worse than you thought. And, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack talks polar vortex, the farm bill, and food prices.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the economy added 74,000 jobs last month, falling way below analyst expectations. The unemployment rate dropped to 6.7  percent, largely due to the shrinking size of the labor force.

Attention, Target shoppers: That data breach was worse than you thought. This morning, the company said the hack affected 70 million customers, not 40 million. And in addition to credit-card data, the hackers got personal information like names, addresses, phone numbers, and emails.

For farmers, this has been a tough two weeks. One man who knows that is U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack. He joined Marketplace Morning Report host David Brancaccio to discuss the impact of the polar vortex on agriculture.
