PODCAST: The Commerce Dept. has the least popular booth at CES

At CES in Las Vegas, the Commerce Department highlights its "Open for Business Agenda." 50 years of the War on Poverty. And, Silicon Valley's embrace of failure as a step toward success can be confusing — especially if you're the venture capitalist that put up the money.

At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas today the Commerce Department is set to make an appearance. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker will be promoting the department’s “Open for Business Agenda.” It’s focused on trade and investment, innovation, and data. But given all the hubbub with the NSA and surveillance issues, how warm of welcome will the government get?

Fifty years ago today, President Johnson declared what he dubbed the War on Poverty. Marketplace’s Wealth and Poverty desk checked in with communities around the country asking about the state of that war.

Danielle Morrill is a 28 year-old web entrepreneur who lives in San Francisco. A few years ago she started a company, Refer.ly, that paid people to write reviews about products they loved.  It was her first try at building a business, and her first major fail.
