PODCAST: Smartphone killed the navigation star, is that how that song goes?

The smartphone killed the camera. Is the GPS unit next? Senator Angus King of Maine tells us why wants to make banking boring again. And the latest GDP numbers.

Smartphones are killing point-and-shoot cameras. What are they doing to GPS systems? Garmin, maker of global positioning devices reports earnings today, and its quarterly results may offer a clue.

Here’s a truly awful advertising tagline that would go nowhere on Madison Avenue: “We make banking boring again”. But is it possible that Wall Street needs this slogan? Senator Angus King of Maine, an Independent who has been working with prominent Democrats and Republicans, says yes. Five years after the financial collapse, King is trying to bring back the Glass-Steagall Act, originally created after The Great Depression to split up commercial and investment banking.

And the latest GDP numbers are better than analysts expectated.
