Alison Ver Meulen

Alison Ver Meulen is Marketplace's former manager of communications. While in this position, she worked across the shop to promote the Marketplace brand through publicity, including PR for our hosts, reporters, podcasts and broadcast shows. In addition, she managed all external communications, which includes working with our parent company, APM, on station relations, partnerships and events.

What was your first job?

A high school tennis coach.

What do you think is the hardest part of your job that no one knows?

Attention to detail and communication flow is super tactical and time consuming!

What advice do you wish someone had given you before you started this career?

You will mess up, but that's OK. The harder you fall, the better you learn.

In your next life, what would your career be?

A packaging engineer!

What is something that everyone should own, no matter how much it costs?

Truthfully, a really good knife set.

What’s something that you thought you knew but later found out you were wrong about?

That I was an adult at 25.

What’s your most memorable Marketplace moment?

So corny, but EVERY DAY! I love coming to work, and that is really a blessing.

What’s the favorite item in your workspace and why?

Hands-down my double monitor screens. I WANT TO SEE EVERYTHING AT ONCE ALWAYS.
