Kai Ryssdal: How you think about the job market kind of depends on where you’re coming from. First time worker? Been around for a while? Maybe you’re close to retirement.

So we’re going to hear this week from people of different generations and how they’re dealing with finding a job. Today: the 20s.

Sondra Morin: My name is Sondra Morin and I live in Chicago, Ill. I am job searching currently. I graduated in 2005 and moved to Chicago, and the first job that I accepted was at the Notebaert Nature Museum. And I didn’t have the best relationship with the manager at the time, and there was no room for growth within the department I worked in, so I started seeking jobs elsewhere.

One of the things that I have noticed is that when I do apply to jobs, often I’m applying to jobs that I am overqualified for, which may be one of the reasons I am not getting them. Another reason, I believe, is the fact that I have been unemployed for so long, so my resume reads the last time I had a job was September 2010.

My father currently works, and has worked, at the same factory job for 35 years. And he wishes me luck, you know, he hopes that I do well.
