Dude, you’re getting an … EMC
Here are the numbers we're reading and watching for Monday.
$67 billion
That’s how much Dell has paid for cloud computing company EMC. It’s the largest tech buyout in history. As the Wall Street Journal reports, EMC began re-strategizing last year under pressure from Elliott Management Corp., an activist hedge fund.
70 luxury brands
That’s how many are owned by LVMH. The company reported 19 percent revenue growth in the first half of 2015. But with almost as many stores located in Asia as in Europe, the company has also seen its revenue negatively affected by China’s economy.
$12
That’s how much Sanmay Ved, a student, paid for ownership of the Google.com web domain. Through an administrative oversight on the company’s website-selling service, the domain was made available for purchase. Ved had control for a full minute before Google cancelled the transaction. As the BBC writes, Google awarded Ved with a bug bounty when he reported the incident — they also doubled the amount when they heard he would donate the money to an Indian educational foundation.
400 people
That’s how many attended a virtual reality film festival in New York. From swivel chairs set in rows, festival attendees were transported to post-earthquake Nepal or to Van Gogh’s “The Night Cafe.” But don’t call them films in front of the designers — they prefer to call them “experiences.”
