Poll respondents tricked by Panetta-Burns plan

Twenty-five percent of respondents to Public Policy Polling's new survey said they had heard of a deficit reduction plan that doesn't actually exist.

This final note today. Returning to where we started — a test, of sorts, to see how closely you’re paying attention to the fiscal cliff debate.

There’s a survey out today from Public Policy Polling. People were asked what they thought about various deficit reduction plans. Simpson-Bowles did pretty well. It’s the baseline budget proposal a lot of Washington is talking a lot about. Thirty-nine percent of Americans had an opinion about it.

Twenty-five percent of us have heard of the Panetta-Burns deficit plan — which is the really amazing number…since it’s not real.

Pollsters just threw it in there to see what would happen.

Gotta stay on your toes, gang.
