YouTube might just find you one day

Most of us are barely getting used to our cameras being able to figure out who’s in our pictures based on past pictures and tagging. Now, in a recent patent filing, Google suggests it might bring facial recognition to videos. I feel sorry for all you future kids uploading what you think are funny videos. It’s one thing to anonymously dance like a chicken, but that’s probably not going to help you 10-15 years down the road when you’re trying to land a job. Unless, of course, that job is a sports team mascot.
Engadget reports on the technology:
its technique uses video frames to generate clusters of face representations that are attached to a given person. By knowing what a subject looks like from various angles, Google could then attach a name to a face whenever it shows up in a clip, even at different angles and in strange lighting conditions.
The article also speculates on what this could mean for Project Glass, Google’s upcoming line of computer-embedded glasses. Imagine walking into a party wearing a pair of the glasses knowing everybody’s name in the room.
