According to a recent Pew study, 21% of Americans have read an e-book in the last year. Apparently a lot of people received e-readers over the holiday season too, because as of December of 2011, only 17% said they had read an e-book. With the beyond-their-wildest-dreams success of Harry Potter books being released in digital format, expect the number to rise even more. The study shows a trend not only in e-books but in reading. For those of you that don’t own an e-reader, I’m afraid it’s bad news time.

From CNN: “Pew noted that nearly 20% of U.S. adults said they had not read a single book in the past year. In general, people who don’t own electronic reading devices are more likely not to read much at all.”

Apparently we still like to reach for a good, old-fashioned hard copy book before we hit the sack, when we check one out from the library, and especially when we read to kids. Goodnight moon.
