It had to happen, right? Nothing could stay that friendly, even artificially friendly, for all that long. A new app on Facebook lets you declare your enemies, be they people, brands, movies, whatever. Because what is social media without telling people what you HATE because that’s so important to people. The app, EnemyGraph, was developed by two students and a professor at the University of Texas at Dallas. It doesn’t have many users so far but among the most, sigh, Enemied entities are Rick Santorum, Fox News, and Westboro Baptist Church.

But more importantly, its creators say, press coverage has helped meet the team’s goal of sparking a larger conversation about the nature of social media and Facebook in particular.
“One thing that has always struck me is the enforced niceness culture,” Terry told Mashable. “We wanted to give people a chance to express dissonance as well. We’re using the word enemy about as accurately as Facebook uses the word friend.”

Enforced niceness culture? It’s called politeness and it has been part of civilized culture for a long time, YOU HORRIBLE JERKS! (see what I did there?)
