Well, this is just bad sportsmanship. Matthew Spaccarelli became something of a folk hero among people who follow wireless data carrier practices closely when he won a lawsuit against AT&T. Spaccarelli was on an unlimited plan and argued that AT&T was slowing down his data when he got to a certain level of data usage, in violation of the terms of his agreement with the company. He was awarded $850, which was less than the ten grand he was seeking but still, a win over AT&T is still something to put a notch in your belt.

Now AT&T wants to cancel his contract, saying that he was using his AT&T phone as a tether to a second device and that’s in violation of his contract. The company says it offers other contracts that do allow such tethering. Those are not unlimited, of course, so he’d have to switch.
