As we’ve said before, this was more like political homesteading than legitimate policy making but Senate Republicans got their vote on blocking the FCC’s impending net neutrality rules yesterday. The measure failed by a vote of 52-46 with Democrats holding ranks in support of the FCC and President Obama. Of course, even if it had passed, Obama made it clear that the measure to overturn would be vetoed. A similar measure passed through the Republican-led House easily last spring. At this point there are no further plans to re-introduce the measure in the Senate. We probably won’t hear much about this in terms of legislative action until after the 2012 election at the earliest.
