Researchers say expanding waistlines mean Americans now burn almost a billion more gallons of gas than they did back in 1960.

Gas averages about $2.20 these days nationwide, so the extra pounds mean we’re spending an extra $2.2 billion a year on gas.

Although we did notice what seems to be one glaring omission in the study: No accounting for all the gas burned while idling at the fast-food drive thru.
