Without much fanfare, Amazon opens its Kindle Lending Library service today in over 11,000 U.S. libraries. Kindle owners can have books "whisper-synced" to their readers just like checking out a book. Not a Kindle owner? Well, if you just have an Amazon account, you're eligible. It's new territory so this is likely what Amazon considers a "soft launch", try it out, make sure it doesn't get all crashy and buggy. If it does, the damage won't be great and fixing will be easier.

“I think the best compliment I can give is not to say how much your programs have taught me (a ton), but how much Marketplace has motivated me to go out and teach myself.” – Michael in Arlington, VA
