The U.S. Trade Representative's office released a list Monday of "notorious markets" for counterfeit goods. At the top, China's search engine Baidu. It's the most visited site in China, and in the top 10 most visited sites globally. In its report, the USTR said Baidu uses "'deep linking' to steer buyers to "allegedly infringing materials, often stored on third-party hosting sites. Deep links take web users to a specific point within a website without first going to the website's home page." Congress is debating how to treat online counterfeiters with the COICA bill, and the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement is working on shutting down websites that offer pirated or counterfeited material.
