Well, that took longer than expected. Twitter, for all its benefits, has traditionally been weirdly inept at letting users scan through their own very old tweets. You tend to get a ways back in your timeline, usually through hitting a button for more tweets a zillion times, and then you hit the end of the line. So if you want to unearth that witty riposte you made for the 2011 Oscars, tough luck.
Now, the company says it’s working on a tool that will let you excavate those tweets.

Twitter’s Dick Costolo told the New York Times the tool is on the way but he didn’t know exactly when it would be done.

Even though the new tool will let users look at their own tweets, Costolo told the Times that it wouldn’t let people explore other users’ backlogs of posts. This is significant because the company is in the middle of a lawsuit with New York State over tweet records of an Occupy Wall Street protester, in which the social network is refusing to hand over the protester’s history.
