Despite a slow alcohol retail market, this Wyoming distillery is expanding

The family-owned Backwards Distilling Company decided to open a second location in Wyoming this year, despite an uncertain market.

Alcohol consumption is on a downward trend, so it makes sense that alcohol sales would also be in decline. However, just because consumers are pulling back for now doesn't mean businesses have to do the same.

Amber and Mallory Pollock, along with Amber’s family, own and operate Backwards Distilling Company, a tasting room and wholesale business in Casper, Wyoming. They’ve recently opened a second location in Laramie.

“I feel like there's so much uncertainty that it's kind of hard to wait for smoother waters, because you're like, ‘Well, when is that gonna come?’” said Amber.
