The Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of the world’s oil would usually travel, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, is now a GPS dead zone.

GPS signals are being jammed as a form of electronic warfare, which is one of the reasons it’s so hard for ships to traverse the strait amid war in Iran.

“Marketplace” host Amy Scott joined Christopher Mims, a technology columnist for the Wall Street Journal who wrote about GPS jamming and dead zones, to talk about what is being done about it.
