Why Trump’s tariffs on newsprint were overturned
The U.S. International Trade Commission finds itself in more of the spotlight now that the White House is taking a bigger role in tariffs.

In January of 2017 the the U.S. Commerce Department imposed tariffs as much as 32 percent on Canadian newsprint causing paper prices to wildly skyrocket. The new prices may harm newspapers, already operating on razor thin margins, across the United States.

The U.S. International Trade Commission has overturned the Trump administration’s tariffs on Canadian newsprint. The ITC found that newsprint imports from Canada don’t harm U.S. paper producers. The tariffs had been put in place by the Commerce Department earlier this month.
