The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced on Friday that it would award its 2013 Peace Prize to a United Nations group tasked with destroying Syria’s arsenal of chemical weapons. The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons received the award as pressure mounts worldwide for it to successfully dismantle Syria’s stockpile of chemical weapons amid a bloody civil war.
