This final note today, a follow up to our story yesterday about corn. Production’s down, as we said, so prices are up.

Whaddya think happens when a crop is basically wiped out? That’s where Michican is with its sour cherries, where freak weather has annihilated orchards. Michigan — in case you didn’t know — grows most of America’s sour cherries, which — also in case you didn’t know — go into granola and trail mix, among other things.

So, if you’re hiking this weekend and like cherries in your trail mix, enjoy it while it lasts. They’ll be swapping in cranberries soon because of the cost.
