Turns out address books aren’t the only thing accessible to iPhone app makers. The New York Times is reporting that your pictures may also be susceptible. “After a user allows an application on an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to have access to location information, the app can copy the user’s entire photo library, without any further notification or warning, according to app developers.” Photos taken with an iPhone typically come with meta data, which says where and when the picture was taken, so by enabling this function, somebody could theoretically track where you’ve been and where you might go. Creepy stuff. Again from the Times, “The knowledge that this capability exists is not new, developers say, but it was assumed that Apple would ensure that apps that inappropriately exploited it did not make it into the App Store. Based on recent revelations, phone owners cannot be sure.”
