That’s the newly launched sub-site on Wikipedia that will document the British town of Monmouth. The idea is that everything in the town will end up online… church towers, bridges, people, cats(?). The BBC reports: “Wikipedia is keen for local people to become involved by suggesting and writing articles, taking and donating photographs, and recommending good reference material.” Roger Bamkin, a spokesman for the project, hopes to have 1000 items up on the site by April, each with its own scanable barcode, so you can walk around town with a smartphone, scan a QR code and read about the city’s history. Of course, you may want to look up from your phone every now and again, if you go for a visit. After all you spent a nice chunk of change on the flight and hotel stay for this vacation. You even rented a car and drove all the way to Monmouth on the opposite side of the road. Enjoy the people, relax in the pub. Then, maybe scan a few codes for later.
