On the possibility of a double-dip recession:
Felix Salmon: It’s conceivable. Remember, it took over a year after the beginning of the last recession until we finally admitted we were in a recession. So it is possible, but I personally doubt it.
Sudeep Reddy: It is very painful, and you generally don’t see a degradation like this in the labor market, with three straight months of an increasing unemployment rate without the economy going back into a recession. There certainly are exceptions, and we can hope there’s one this time.
