A newer, even more aggressive form of malware for Mac does not require a user password to install itself and screw up your computer. We recently told you about some malware that disguises itself as an anti-virus detector and asks Mac owners to supply their computer’s password (and sometimes credit card information) to “clean” the machine. This is kind of noteworthy because historically Macs are a lot less susceptible to malware attacks than PCs, partially because they’re built more cohesively (all by Apple whereas PCs have a lot of other companies involved) and also because they just aren’t as popular so the bad guys don’t target them. This latest Malware – it goes by the name MacGuard – will even install automatically if you go to an infected site using the Apple-made Safari browser if that browser is set to open files automatically.
