Interesting news from an anonymous Apple employee sent to Digg founder Kevin Rose. Apparently people stranded from the disaster in Japan are flocking to the Apple stores in downtown Tokyo to charge their phones and iPads and contact relatives. Employees are bringing out surge protectors and extension cords so people can charge their devices and take advantage of the wifi.

You know how in disaster movies, people on the street gather around electronic shops that have TVs in the display windows so they can stay informed with what is going on? In this digital age, that’s what the Tokyo Apple stores became.

Apple employees, both retail and corporate, are using the store as accommodations since they can’t get out and all hotels are full.
