This is a plan that Facebook first announced several weeks ago but then quickly put on ice after loud objections from privacy groups and concern from lawmakers. Yesterday, Facebook sent a letter to Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA) and Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) saying that the plan was still on but that the company is still figuring out how to let users know exactly what information they’re giving over when they sign up for these third party apps. Critics have noted that apps have all sorts of ways to trick users into sharing a lot of data already, maybe more than those users even realize, and that those developers will find a way to get around this as well. Then before you know it you’re getting calls at home or on your cell either from the developer or someone they sold your number to.
