Kiplinger released this detailed map of current and retro gas price ranges by U.S. state over a five-year span, which includes a breakdown of fuel efficiency per car and what we pay for at the pump. States along the West Coast pay the highest price for fuel as of May 2010 at an average of $2.90-$3.50 per gallon, while Southern states around Oklahoma and Tennessee have some of the cheapest prices around $2.27-$2.60 per gallon.
