Employers added just 73,000 jobs last month, well short of what forecasters expected. Worse, revisions shaved a stunning 258,000 jobs off May and June payrolls.

Many of the gains came in leisure and hospitality jobs.

We went looking for other labor market data to suss out how healthy the job market really is right now.

Data out Tuesday from The Conference Board indicates consumers think the tub is draining faster than it’s filling up.
