Wyoming is set to lose about $50 million a year because of new federal breaks for the coal industry. This has state lawmakers looking for ways to recoup the revenue loss.

The GOP’s plan to put a for-sale sign on millions of acres of federal land out West was just nixed. But the idea has been kicking around Washington for years.

“This is one area where there does appear to be convergence between Democrats and Republicans,” said UChicago professor Mike Albertus.
