The New York Fed’s survey shows people expect inflation to hit 3.4% in a year. That’s up from an expectation of 3% in February, before the war in the Middle East started.
Right now, consumers expect high inflation. They think, on average, inflation will be 6.5% in a year and 7.2% in five to 10 years, according to the Michigan Survey of Consumers.
Consumers’ expectations about their own personal financial situations declined sharply in April, according to the New York Fed. But their inflation expectations didn't change much.
According to the results of a survey by the New York Fed, a growing number of people are pessimistic about their finances. But economic indicators show economy is still strong.
