Although the pandemic meant a big hit for the performing arts industry, ticket sales for live events in North America these days are 93% of what they were back in 2019. Among performers who managed to weather the storm are Elsie Smith and her twin sister Serenity Smith Forchion. Together, they founded the New England Center for Circus Arts in Brattleboro, Vermont, nearly 20 years ago.

“We have become very aware of the fact that the economic impact that we have on the town is noticed by everyone in the town,” said Serenity.

“It has been an interesting balance to make sure that we can satisfy these big needs on the international stage and yet still make sure that we pay attention to the needs of our small town,” added Elsie.
