The climate crisis is here, and no place is that more apparent than in the western United States during fire season. Last year, over 5 million acres of land burned in wildfires. This year, 8 million acres are expected to burn.
Every year, wildfires cost the U.S. hundreds of billions of dollars, but there are businesses looking to reduce some of those costs and damages.
“If we can do something before the fire starts, before the firefighters show up, it really lessens their load,” says Jessica Davison, a former wildland firefighter and the owner of Firebreak Management, a wildfire mitigation and ecological forestry business located in Bozeman, Montana.
Davison talks about her decision to start her business and how business has grown.
