Hosting trivia to help pay for the little things in life

“When I started this job with trivia, I initially envisioned it very much as a part-time sort of side hustle,” said Andrew Anderson in Columbus, Ohio. “And now I really do think of it more as a second job.”

When Andrew Anderson in Columbus, Ohio, started hosting trivia at his local bar in 2023, he thought of it more as a side hustle—until it quickly grew into something more.

“We make $100 a week. My wife and I do this together. It's really nice to have that sort of income together,” said Anderson, who also teaches French at Capital University. “The money that we've gotten has really helped with a lot of the little expenses that you don't expect.”

Anderson is one of about 8.5 million Americans who hold multiple jobs, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. While that number has declined over the last year, it has trended upwards since 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns.

“It's great to have a little source of income that sort of takes the pressure off of the little everyday things,” said Anderson.
