Since the 2020 lockdown, consumers are spending big on appliances that help them make their coffee at home. A report from the National Coffee Association found that spending on nearly every type of home coffee-making device had increased from 2020 to 2025 (with the exception of the French press). And according to Rachel Wharton, senior writer at Wirecutter, some of those higher-end machines are not cheap.
“They’re not cheap at all, like, thousands of dollars,” said Wharton. “You could even do like $10,000 if you get it built into your fancy kitchen space.”
Wharton spoke with “Marketplace” host Kai Ryssdal about the home coffee-making trend.
