It’s the beginning of the end of an era for German Chancellor Angela Merkel

Merkel is stepping down as head of her party in December and will remain Chancellor until 2021.

Angela Merkel is the longest-serving head of state in the European Union. She has steered Germany’s economy through some terrible financial times, and exerted a heavy influence on the direction of the EU as well.
