Why Hollywood loves sequels, adaptations and reboots

Blame television, blame the international audience, blame money, and blame yourselves.

Summer blockbuster season is upon us. And a lot of this year’s slate end with the suffix “2”, including “Grown Ups 2” (which scored an amazing 6 percent on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes), “Red 2”, and “Despicable Me 2”. Then there’s “The Hangover 3”, and “Iron Man 3”, not to mention “Fast & Furious 6”.

Derek Thompson, business editor at The Atlantic, has been analyzing all these 2’s in search of a theme. He joins Marketplace Morning Report David Brancaccio to discuss.
