A look at 2012’s Super Bowl ads

Mark Hunter, chief creative officer at Deutsch L.A., dissects Volkswagen's 2012 Super Bowl commercial, "The Dog Strikes Back."

Super Bowl Sunday is a big day on the sports calendar. And it’s just as big for those in advertising.

Deustch L.A. is the ad agency behind, arguably, last year’s most talked-about Super Bowl ad,”The Force.” Marketplace host Kai Ryssdal and a couple of staff members at Marketplace visited Mark Hunter, chief creative officer at Deutsch L.A., earlier this week, to talk about the state of Super Bowl advertising, the high bar “The Force” has set, and to get a sneak peek at Deutsch’s new VW ad for this Sunday’s big game.

Click on the play button above to listen to a web-exclusive interview between Kai and Mark on the concept behind this year’s VW Super Bowl commercial, “The Dog Strikes Back.” And watch the ad in the video player in the left sidebar.

Plus, check out a couple other ads set to air during this year’s Super Bowl. To celebrate the launch of the all-new 2012 CR-V, Honda brought “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” back for the big-game commercial. The ad featuers Matthew Broderick as himself, skipping out on a day of acting work and living it up in his all-new CR-V.

And the Acura NSX 2012 Super Bowl commercial features comedian Jerry Seinfeld going to extreme lengths to bribe the man who holds the rights to buy the first 2015 Acura NSX supercar.
