The FCC is expected to vote today on a new rule requiring broadcasters to disclose political advertising spending online. The information has long been publicly disclosed, but if you wanted it, you had to travel down to the broadcasting station and request it there. Advocates of the proposed FCC rule say that’s silly, these are public elections and people have a right to know in an efficient way. The National Association of Broadcasters is opposing the rule, saying it would be an unfair burden to make them constantly update the records, especially close to an election. FCC Chair Julius Genachowski says a reasonable time frame would be part of the deal.
