You’ve heard Reema ask some of our guests a series of rapid-fire “uncomfortable money questions” on the show, and now we want to hear how you’d answer.
Please record yourself answering the first question, along with any 3-5 of the other questions listed below — choose whichever feels like they resonate the most with you! Try to keep each answer under a minute or so.
Follow the steps below to record yourself with an iPhone and send us the voice memo. We might use it on the show!
Required: Introduce yourself (name, age, location, job — and if you’re comfortable, income)
Answer any 3-5 of the following questions:
What was the last thing you bought on impulse … how much was it, and how did you feel after?
What’s something inexpensive that you can’t live without?
What’s a financial mistake that still haunts you?
Have you ever lied (or stretched the truth) about money?
What’s a financial task or decision you keep putting off?
What’s a financial worry that’s been on your mind lately?
How do you and your partner split expenses, and how do you feel about it?
What’s a money lesson you’ve learned and want to share?
What’s a money disagreement you and your partner keep coming back to?
Keep it natural and don’t overthink it. Be yourself!
Before you start: The easiest way to get good audio is to sit in a small, quiet room with soft furnishings (like a bedroom or living room). Kitchens and bathrooms tend to sound echo-y.
How to record on an iPhone:
Set phone to Airplane mode (so nothing interrupts you).
Locate your default "Voice Memos" app — usually under Utilities, with your calculator.
Hit the red button to start recording.
Hold the phone to your ear as you would when talking to someone on the phone, getting that microphone close to your mouth.
Introduce yourself (“This is Susan Smith from Rhode Island”)
Clearly read the question aloud and then answer it.
Feel free to do a couple of tries!
When you're done, hit that red button again to stop the recording.
Take your phone off airplane mode and email the recording to us at: uncomfortable@marketplace.org
