Karthik Naralasettywon the Staples/Ashoka Youth Social Entrepreneur Competition with his Facebook app called Socialblood. Naralasettywon set up eight Facebook groups (one for each blood type). You sign up for the group that matches your type, then wait. If somebody needs your type of blood, they post to the page. Naralasettywon says that the pages have already begun to help. According to his interview in All Things D “he knows of at least 10 donations that happened because people met each other using Socialblood.” He wants to expand beyond Facebook and develop a location-based system for people to find matches.
