TechNuggets: banned websites, Gore loses to Gorbachev, mind reading cars

John Moe Sep 29, 2011

Yesterday the American Association of School Librarians organized Banned Website Awareness Day. The New York Times quotes a Chicago librarian saying “Entire categories of Web sites had been blocked, including those that involved games, violence, weapons, even swimsuits… It just got to the point that it became hard to conduct research.”

A group backed by Al Gore dropped its bid to gain the rights to administer .eco domain names, which could show up as early as 2013. Looks like a group backed by Mikhail Gorbachev will now get it.

Researchers in Switzerland are working on cars that can read your mind.
If the endeavor proves successful, the vehicles of the future may be able to prepare themselves for a left or right turn – choosing the correct speed and positioning – by gauging that their drivers are thinking about making such a turn.
