As in, a tablet that some people really like but you can now get it for a heck of a lot cheaper than when it launched a few months ago. Best Buy, Office Depot, and Staples are all offering Playbook for $100-$200 off. Office Depot even throws in a $100 rebate on the thing. What we don’t know at the moment is whether these discounts are coming from Research In Motion or from the retailers themselves. Regardless, someone is trying to move some product here. Now that we see an indication that consumers aren’t biting, I’d be curious to see if businesses are picking these things up. That’s been the key to survival for RIM: businesses buying BlackBerrys for employees. RIM was hoping the Playbook would fall in that same category.
