"Not so fast, AT&T" – big tech companies

John Moe Mar 24, 2011

We’ve reported on how Verizon doesn’t really plan to oppose the big mega merger because they figure, hey, it’s gonna go through no matter what. But some major tech players aren’t taking the whole thing lying down. The Computer & Communications Industry Association is a trade group that counts Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and eBay among its members and it has released a statement opposing the deal. They say it will be bad for consumer choice and where there is less choice, there is less competition and less innovation. Of course where there are fewer wireless carriers, there are more powerful wireless carriers who have more leverage against the companies making applications and operating systems.
