Next iPad won’t have that big button?

John Moe Jan 14, 2011

According to rumors that have been flowing for the past day or so, the iPad 2 (probably showing up in April by all indications) will not have that one huge button down at the bottom. Presumably this clears the way for the iPhone 5 to ditch the button too when it shows up in June. The specs being put out to developers for the next iOS – that’s the operating system Apple mobile devices run on – support multi-finger touch screen capability for up to five fingers. So your hands will be all over the screen doing stuff, they’ll just never press the big honking button on the bottom. Steve Jobs never wanted the button in the first place. Of course if Apple does this, it could become the standard on more tablets and mobile devices. It also clears surface space so the whole device could be one big screen.
