New Verizon network going live on 12/5

John Moe Dec 1, 2010

Verizon will flip the switch on their new LTE network, which they’re calling “4G”, on December 5th. It’s important to note: IT’S NOT 4G. At least not according to the International Telecommunications Union, a United Nations agency that sets international standards over what can be considered 4G. The ITU says advanced LTE would qualify as 4G but this thing Verizon is rolling out misses that by a country mile. Still, Verizon’s new system will be faster even though it will only be available in 38 metro areas to start with, and they’ll call it 4G and fine, sure, whatever, I still can’t make calls from AT&T.
